Is Sterilization Surgery Scary?

Sterilization surgery is not as intimidating as it may seem. There are preparations and postoperative care measures to follow, including:

Preoperative Care:

  • Opt for a vet clinic or animal hospital with high standards and experienced veterinarians.
  • Schedule health check-ups, blood tests, and X-rays for your pets.
  • Ensure they abstain from food and drink at least 6-8 hours before surgery.
  • Prepare essential equipment such as an anti-lick vest or an anti-lick collar.

Postoperative Care:

  • Ensure pets rest in their cages.
  • Monitor for symptoms like swelling, redness, or inflammation.
  • Attend scheduled appointments for wound checks with the veterinarian.
  • Change bandages and cleanse the wound.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Regulate their diet with mild foods.
  • Avoid activities that involve running or jumping.

Precautions:

  • Pets may experience soreness, lethargy, and loss of appetite.
  • Pets may lick their wounds.
  • Possible complications include wound infection and rupture.
